Bobby Young
Bobby Young has always been interested in working outdoors. After high school, he looked at university but felt a little overwhelmed when it came to picking a program that would fit his interests. Then as a mature student, he wasn’t comfortable enrolling in “expensive university courses without being fully committed” to his chosen program. That’s when he turned to SIAST.
“SIAST made it easy to return to post-secondary education,” Bobby says. “The programs SIAST offers in Natural Resources are second to none. Your direction is streamlined, so I’m fully aware of where I can take my education to pursue a career.”
Networking is one of the things he likes most about the program. “Faculty come directly from the respective fields, whether conservation, taxonomy, geology, etc. They know the business and they know what it takes to build a successful career. Not only do they have the knowledge to teach, they also have the ability to answer questions. They are willing to share their own personal accounts to help you gain confidence in your chosen career path.”
Bobby feels his SIAST education will be an advantage in the job market. “SIAST has a great reputation for producing bright, young, energetic people. The faculty is supportive, and the program is very flexible. I’d say the program doesn’t need much of a build-up. It sells itself!”
